Brooklyn Heights, NY
This client had just moved into a new apartment and wanted to replace all of her existing furniture and finally create a space that was truly her own.
Our goals were to create a functional and gracious entry, a restful sleeping area, a glamorous dressing table, a functional sit/stand workspace, a cozy and comfortable living/guest room, a compact dining area and dedicated moments of joy for her cat throughout the home while feeling airy, whimsical, and evoking the homes prewar charm…all in a petite 290 sf.
We begin every project with a set of principles that come from our client’s own words:
The key moves here are: adding a pivoting multi-functional Murphy bed with a bed on one side, a fold out sit/stand desk, folding table, and storage on the other, and a “catio” on top, adding built-in cabinets and open shelves to maximize storage space, repainting the kitchen cabinets and retiling the island and backsplash to visually lighten the space, wallpapering every surface to create visual interest and cohesion, selecting an ultra compact (but still really comfortable!) sofabed, and maintaining flexibility with easily movable pieces.

“When you live in New York City, it is essential for your home to be a peaceful sanctuary. But that can be really tricky in a small and quirky space. Enter Madelaine, who is an absolute magician!”
