I think we all have them. Dates that will live forever, engraved on our minds, representing a pivotal moment in our personal stories different from the conventionally celebrated anniversaries of birth, graduation, marriage, having kids, etc…
I just celebrated one of mine – October 15th – my Meiversary, if you will.
Last year I shared on my blog my story of starting over, and learning the depth and importance of the meaning of home. At that point I had also just left my last office and begun working in ADROIT full time.
Fast forward a year and holy smokes, the distance I have covered in 24 months blows my mind!!
734 days ago I moved into my new (and award winning) apartment. I left an isolating and abusive relationship, and a job I hated, to run my own business, doing what I love more than anything in the world, with the best roommate a girl could ask for (Princess Buttercup, obviously).

This year I celebrated my Meiversary in true style – at High Point Market!
You may remember from one of my posts last spring, High Point Market, the largest furniture fair in the world. There are over 12 million square feet of showrooms spread out over 180 buildings showcasing 2,000 different vendors. IT’S HUGE!
My stats clocked in about the same as last market, although I think my selections were smarter and more informed the second time around. Over the course of 5 days:
- I walked over 120,000 steps
- I visited over 1,000 vendors
- I took nearly 4,000 photos
- I sat in over 6,000 chairs & sofas
- I added over 700 chairs & sofas to my “approved list”
- I “discovered” or reconfirmed dozens of exciting vendor partners
I also may have found the most comfortable and least visually offensive recliner ever made (with a matching ottoman). It has no buttons or levers, just lean back to recline as much as you want and gently start to sit up to return to neutral with unparalleled support (and I say this as someone with spinal issues!) Oh, and did I mention I can get it with 3 different base styles, 4 different arm styles, and ANY FABRIC ON THE PLANET??

I was honestly blown away by this thing, and you know it takes A LOT to impress me. I also found tons of great upholstery options, stunning lighting, fantastic sources for mirrors and accessories, and dining tables galore (I know I went looking for dining tables for 2 projects, but still, so many great dining tables!!)
The fact that Market and my Meiversary coincided this year was extra sweet. Going to High Point feels like being myself on steroids – working my butt off to see as much as I can and beholden to no one. It couldn’t have been a more fitting celebration.
Wherever you are, I encourage you to think about the moments in your life that marked genuine change and celebrate them. For better or for worse (we’ll talk in February about “Neck Day”) you wouldn’t be who or where you are today without them.
And I can be of service to you, please do not hesitate to reach out to schedule a Complimentary Design Discovery Consultation. My brain is exploding with possibilities, and I cannot wait to start designing for you with all of these fabulous new resources.
Till next time…
Madelaine
